Fashion In Burn Hall, by Aisha Saleem and Aymen Saleh
"Quo Non Ascendam”
It’s the motto of our college which means: “To what heights can I not rise?”
But in my opinion our 21st generation Hallians have interpreted our great motto in the wrong sense. Entering the gates of Burn Hall, in a glimpse what we see is really shameful and astounding. Everywhere we see girl students wearing really short shirts with front buttons open, cuffs open, no badges and no ties but, instead, they have got different chains and necklaces, bracelets and bangles, mehndi on their hands, colourful ponies in their hairs with flicks on their forehead and even light makeup, like lipsticks, lip glosses, nail polishes etc. Concluding from all this situation I would say that motto of our girls is:
“To what FASHIONS can I not Rise”
The history of Burn Hall goes back to late 40s when it was shifted here in Abbottabad. Since then, the college followed a value-oriented scheme of studies in order to prove itself as a great college. For this purpose students worked really hard following
Burn Hall’s Motto’ to succeed.
But gone are the days when Hallians devoted themselves whole-heartedly only towards their studies. Gone are the days when our Burn Hall had serious prim and proper girl students who were known for never daring to be different! But now from hair clips to wrist bands and from dyed and streaked hair, to kohl-rimmed eyes our school is getting a whole new look! And Hallians like it or not but FASHION IS RIGHT HERE IN BURN HALL.
Fashion at school, although quite common, is not very beneficial, as it has affected the teenage Hallians in a way that they don’t know anything about our religion, but they can tell you a lot about movies and all such things which owe their contribution to the Western culture. Now here, I would like to ask the students: “Is this the civilization of Burn Hall??? Is this what our teachers teach us??? No! Certainly not.”
The biggest problem of our generation is the use of illegal sources, abo at times, assisted by their parents. Students just don’t give a heed to any objection made by teachers because their parents have instilled in their minds that they are siblings of some officers or they can get fake medical reports and stuff like that.
Girls nowadays are seen wearing small adorable earrings, that too, in different eye-catching colours. Black coloured, but nonetheless, fancy ponies are also quite in. One of the trends that’s fast spreading through girl is “Piercing”. Girls are getting their ears and nose pierced to get them adorned with glittering nose-rings or silver earrings. All these and a whole lot of other stuff is getting Hallians accessorized. Girls get really over and out of control, it seems that the school is over and no classes are being held, and what is more great is that this culture is also being promoted by our college cafeteria as Mehndis are also available there. Girls during free periods and even in classes apply mehndi.
What if all of this is allowed? What if make-up is allowed at school? Who cares about teachers’ objections? And these are a few thinking of our fellow hallians.
I think I got too far. Well, all this does not mean that all the Hallians have fallen a prey to modern fashionable civilization. There are, indeed, a few decent and sober students who really look like normal students and who still spend all of their energies on studies-not on “FASHION”.
What Hallians really want to be is-to be different. So why not get different by being SIMPLE, WELL-MANNERED, WELL-DISCIPLENED and WELL-Behaved???
DO THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!
